Pocket Gamer Awards 2012 – Connect2Media Receive 2 Nominations

14 Feb

It’s that time of year again! When the red carpets are getting unfurled, the champagne is being poured, and envelope manufacturers are being rushed off their feet. That’s right, it’s awards season.

This year, Connect2Media has been nominated for not one, but two games in the Mobile Game of the Year category in the 2012 Pocket Gamer Awards. Both Farm Frenzy 2 and Square King both received nominations in the category, so now it’s just a game of wait and see. Both nominations mean a lot to us, and it’s truly an honour to be in a category that includes so many other incredible games, and to have been nominated in the awards in the first place!

Help us raise money Children in Need 2011!

17 Nov

It’s been a long wait, but finally Children in Need 2011 is here! If you’re not one of the lucky ones going to the Children in Need Rocks concert tonight, in Manchester (Connect2Media’s home town), don’t forget that it’s being broadcast on BBC One between 8pm and 10pm, as well as on Radio 1.

As part of our contribution this year, we’ve teamed up with T-Mobile and are offering you a chance to donate money by downloading some games from T-Mobile UK’s “Play for Children in Need” section. A share of the revenue will go straight to the charity, and will help to make this the biggest year of fundraising yet! So, show your support, and if you happen to not be on T-Mobile, but know someone who is, let them know! The promotion will run for the whole of November, so you have no excuse to not take part! 🙂

Last but not least, don’t miss Pudsey’s big night tomorrow from 7:30pm on BBC 1! And if that’s not enough Children in Need action for you, tell us what you did to raise money this year by posting a comment on our blog, writing on our new Facebook Page wall or sending us a Tweet – you can find us as Connect2Media or our new account 365 Games!

Mobile Game Research – Poll Results

22 Sep

The votes are in, the poll is closed and the results have been verified….

We are, of course, talking about our poll to find out how many games people have installed on their mobile devices!

As stated in our previous post, mobile phone storage amounts have increased somewhat in the past decade resulting in more room for the owner to store anything from movies to documents to photos to games. We now live in an age where the physical size and cost of storage hardware is constantly decreasing. This has meant that we are able to store more of what we love; mobile games!

So, what were the results? Let us find out…

Poll Results

Although only 26 votes were counted, there appears to be an interesting trend in the results shown. The majority of respondents have between 1 and 20 mobile games installed (53.85% of respondents). This is generally as expected as the average user is probably only going to keep installed the games/apps that they regularly enjoy playing.

At the other end of the spectrum, 19.23% of respondents have too many games to count. This is nearly 1/5th of all respondents. Does the availbility and ease of downloading games onto a mobile nurture this trend? It is worth noting that this result may include people who did not want to sit and count the exact number of games on their handset! Either way, this is still an interesting find.

Although these results can’t really be classed as a true representastion of the general public due to the low sample size, it does serve as an interesting brief insight into the area.  It would be interesting to see in a future study what handset people own and the types of games people have installed. Do casual gamers tend to rack up a larger game collection?

Were the results as you expected? Would the results look very different if the poll was run in 2 years time?

Do let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

How many mobile games do you have installed?

13 Sep

We all enjoy mobile gaming. Playing a great game on a handset is pure portable fun. Even better, there is a constant stream of new games becoming available for all types of mobile. However, combine this with an increase in mobile storage capacity in recent years and it is possible to rack up a large game collection.

So how many games do you currently have on your handset?!

It would be interesting to see the average number of mobile games installed, so we have setup the below poll!

The poll will stay active for 7 days from the time this post goes live.

Connect2Media at Gamescom 2010

7 Sep

Last month Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, played host to 100’s of exhibitors showcasing the latest and greatest from the world of games and entertainment. Running from the 18th to the 22nd August, it was a fantastic few days that Connect2Media were lucky enough to attend.

Big Title Interest

The range of game variety and innovation was clear to see from day 1. Stars Wars: The Old Republic grabbed many peoples attention, bringing the force to an online multiplayer environment that will undoubtedly attract a large following. Call of Duty: Black Ops unsurprisingly also pulled in a large crowd, building up queues that stretched out of the door.

Movement Gaming

The PlayStation Move stand had a large number of people waving around glowing microphone-like stick-controllers, but thoroughly enjoying it. Little Big Planet 2 looked great – which we think would rock on a touchscreen accelerometer mobile. Microsoft also showcased Kinect; their controller-less, sensor based gaming system. It did look very cool indeed…people dancing and pulling off quick movements which was picked up fairly accurately by the sensors.

Gamescom2010

It will be interesting to see how well both Kinect and Move break into the movement-game market established by Wii, which was showing its latest Sing Star and Dance Dance titles at the event. One thing is for sure however – this progression in gaming is very intriguing indeed. We wonder if the mobile game industry could move (excuse the pun) towards large movement based games? Connecting the iPhone up to the Apple TV to play Angry Birds by moving your phone? Now that would be interesting…

Exhibitor Displays

Gamescom not only brings together awesome new games and tech, but also an impressive amount of creativity in the displays used for promotion. Red Faction Armageddon by THQ looks an interesting game, but check out the huge character at the front of the display!

Final Thoughts

What is interesting is how digital delivery is changing the gaming industry, with casual titles reaching a wider audience on more devices than ever before. There were bucket loads more of new releases and titles that grabbed the attention of many, but the list is too long to add to this post! The show in Cologne last month was great from start to finish and Connect2Media were very glad to have been in attendance.

Roll on next year!

What would be your dream mobile game?

25 Aug

Followers of Connect2Media on Facebook and Twitter may have noticed that several weeks ago we asked you an interesting question:

If you could choose any game ever made on any console to be a mobile game, what game would you choose?

With Twitter users tagging their suggestions with #Dreammobilegame and Facebook users commenting on our fan page wall, we have had some very interesting ideas already… but we want to hear some more!

What would be your dreammobilegame?

So, what game would you choose to be able to play on your mobile? It could be that rare, dusty game you have sitting in your loft or perhaps the best chart-topping title of 2010. Either way, let us know your ideas!

Feel free to post a comment here, on our Facebook page or tweet the message with the tag #Dreammobilegame.
